Above all, the first document required for Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme is the date of birth certificate and is essential as well. You may also be surprised to know that you will not be treated as a citizen of India if you do not have a valid date of birth. Also, such a person is ineligible for all the rights and benefits too. So, better you obtain the birth certificate of your girl child at the earliest from her date of birth. While it applies to the context here of the opening of the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account. In other words, to open a Sukanya Samriddhi Account you need to provide proof of birth of the girl child to the post office/bank.

Who issues Date of birth certificate:

Generally, Date of birth or proof of birth of the girl child will be issued by the Municipal authorities (aka municipal birth certificate)/local bodies like Panchayats( panchayat secretary will be the issuing authority).In addition, a birth certificate is also issued by the hospital where the child was born. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account Opening Form:

Finally, the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account Opening Form is one of the documents required for the Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme. You will normally be given an account opening form when you open an account in a post office. So, now, you have to fill the form with the relevant details completely. Then, you have to submit along with the documents required for the opening of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account to the counter Postal Assistant/ Postmaster as the case may be.

To explain, the details include the name of the girl child, name and address of the guardian/parent, Date of birth of the girl child, ID proof details of the guardian, etc. So, it is mandatory to provide KYC documents at the time of opening of any account. Further, as per rules on the subject, you may have to submit a copy of the PAN(Permanent Account Number) card for any deposit exceeding Rs50,000 which is invariable.

You need to give the following declaration in the application form:

“  I hereby undertake to abide by the provisions/rules of the ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Account’ and amendments issued thereto from time to time.

 I hereby declare that I have not opened or maintaining any other account under the same scheme in the name of …………(Name of girl child) in any other Post Office or Bank’’

Certainly, this is a precautionary declaration obtained from the parent/guardian that only one account is opened in the name of a girl child either in the post office/bank under the same scheme. So, you can not claim that you do not know anything that such a rule exists. Thus, either way, it is not beneficial to you if you violate the Govt rulings. So, better you follow them scrupulously.  

Getting an SSY Account Passbook

You have to collect an SSY Account passbook that will be issued to you shortly on submitting the opening application form, relevant documents, and deposit amount. This time, after due scrutiny and satisfaction, and SSY Account passbook will be issued in the name of Girl child clearly mentioning the name and address of guardian/parent. Especially, it contains the details of the girl child including her name, date of birth, date of opening of an account, maturity date, name and address of the guardian, etc. Whenever you deposit in a post office or a bank you need to get the passbook updated as it is required at the time of withdrawal/closure.

In the case of the post office also, you may prefer to pay through IPPB App online at the comfort of your home. You may give Transactions Standing instructions either at the branch or set through Net banking for automatic credit to Sukanya Samriddhi Account.

Thus, you may open a Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) account in any authorized post office branch or authorized branches of commercial banks.
